Single Room Occupancy
A private room in a shared home of five or six people — with support services, common kitchen and living areas, and no time limit on your stay.
What it is
SRO homes offer the privacy of your own room and the company of a small household. Homes are located in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Erie counties. You stay as long as it works for you — there is no time limit on residency.
Support that comes with it
- Linkage to community providers
- Medication support — education, reinforcement, and monitoring
- Financial management assistance — entitlements, budgeting
- Supportive counseling
- Help finding vocational and educational opportunities
- Transportation to the grocery store
- Social and recreational activities to reduce isolation
Who it's for
SRO housing is designed for adults who:
- Are homeless or at risk of homelessness
- May have a disability — but it isn’t required
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Are able and reliable in self-administering medications
- Are psychiatrically stable and capable of emergency self-preservation
- Have the basic skills to live without direct supervision
- Agree to participate in treatment with a provider, if applicable
